Well...wow... Space Chimps actually beat Star Wars.

Well, they tied in their opening weekends, but Star Wars outgrossed Space Chimps in the long(er) run:

Star Wars:

Domestic: $35,161,554
+ Foreign: $33,121,290
= Worldwide: $68,282,844

Space Chimps:

Domestic: $30,105,968
+ Foreign: $34,682,011%
= Worldwide: $64,787,979

Observers frequently note how suspect the opening weekend numbers seem to be ... f'rinstance, isn't it interesting that Madagascar 2 just coincidentally happened to closely inch past WALL·E's opening numbers six months after the fact?Jeff Massiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01025023288241410877noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22906998.post-3823130192650642412009-06-02T22:42:48.969-07:002009-06-02T22:42:48.969-07:00wow... But a clear victory was won over this year's 3D smash Monsters vs. Aliens from rival DreamWorks Animation which bowed to $59.3M in March. Not only did Monsters benefit from higher 3D prices but it also opened wider in 338 more locations. Up now holds the record for the biggest opening for a 3D pic.Jimmynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22906998.post-36209212998043101972009-06-01T21:56:58.932-07:002009-06-01T21:56:58.932-07:00I've seen UP now 4 times, and it gets better every...I've seen UP now 4 times, and it gets better every time.
