And aiming it a adults only alienates the kids and did ruin their box office.

Pixar taught (or re-taught) Disney that you can make films aimed at a GENERAL AUDIENCE (kids AND adults) that are smart, witty, and that EVERYONE can "get" and "enjoy."

Eisner forgot the family and the general audience on every one of his Disney endeavors, which is precisely why he failed. Even aiming a park (DCA) at adults failed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22906998.post-52853036453169154762008-07-30T17:25:00.000-07:002008-07-30T17:25:00.000-07:00Michael who?Michael who?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22906998.post-18335699413753101742008-07-30T15:42:00.000-07:002008-07-30T15:42:00.000-07:00"I always thought that animation should be made fo..."I always thought that animation should be made for adults, and then you get the kids automatically."

Which is why you FAILED at DISNEY, michael eisner.

I'm not fan of Eisner's tenure at Disney, but that quote is hardly why. In fact, he's dead on. Its a nugget of wisdom that more people in this industry should pay attention to - I'm not surprised that its disputed in here.
If you don't agree with the idea that great animation should not be pandered to kids by adults trying to dumb down their own sensibilities, then those who disagree with you are many. Maurice Sendak for one, Steve Hillenberg of Spongebob Squarepants for another, Caldecott Winner Moe Willems, Brad Bird, Tex Avery, Chuck Jones....

Great animation has always been made by creators who never considered targeting children. You make jokes that you find funny and hope kids will like them too. If you're funny, they will.

Good to see Eric Fogel with a new project, he's a good guy. Last I heard though he was firmly planted in NYC - is this going to be made here in Los Angeles?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22906998.post-39399816460229072792008-07-30T08:06:00.000-07:002008-07-30T08:06:00.000-07:00So I guess we should count on "Glenn Martin DDS" n...So I guess we should count on "Glenn Martin DDS" not getting the crucial cynical animator demographic?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22906998.post-40187643233507322562008-07-30T07:24:00.000-07:002008-07-30T07:24:00.000-07:00"I always thought that animation should be made fo..."I always thought that animation should be made for adults, and then you get the kids automatically."

Which is why you FAILED at DISNEY, michael eisner.

And he never "thought" such a thing.
