Shrek the Third has now crossed the $600 mill mark:
DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek the Third" continued its stellar box office performance around the globe, with the cumulative worldwide gross now surpassing the $600 million mark. The history making U.S. opening of "Shrek the Third" -- the largest domestic debut ever for an animated film -- was duplicated in many key territories around the world, with #1 animated openings of all time in such countries as the U.K. (where it remains at the top of the box office charts for the second week of release), Russia, Korea, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Singapore and others.
Some commenters have said Shrek 3.0 isn't their most favorite animated film. And that's fine. But as the estimable Robert S. Birchard told me at lunch yesterday: "Know what Hollywood considers a good movie? A movie that makes lots of money."
And as I've said elsewhere, I want to see lots of good animated movies come out of Hollywood. It means more animation employment.

wow. i haven't seen the film but those kinds of dollars are hard to not take notice.
Here's hoping uncle Jeffrey rewards the crew with an iPhone for each and every one of them.
Kudos, Dreamworks. Keep animation on top of the Box office.
Very nice. Only a few more sequels to Shrek to catch up to the total haul of Cars. Who said animation was done for?
Give it up...we get it Pixar makes great commercials to sell crap with. At least, you admit that movie goers would rather see Shrek than a Pixar film, but they don't mind buying the cheesy Disney/Pixar merchandise.
Of course, you've yet to show any proof of what you claim.
Oh, grow up (LOL)!
CARS worldwide theatrical gross: $461,982 (source: Box Office Mojo)
Shrek the Third: 'nuff said (and still counting)
Toy sales for for Cars is approaching 3 Billion. You don't see many shrek toys around...
assuming your unconfirmed numbers are accurate than you're saying Pixar makes better commercials for children's toys than films?
This numbers mudslinging is stupid.
I'd rather see a movie do well at the BO than to see the toy and other ancillary sales dp well. Why?!...
Good BO = more jobs for animators, hopefully,
More toys sales= more jobs for toymakers in Asia.
rufus.
well said Rufus.
lets hope Disney can get back in the mix of top animated films! Go Frog!
