ReBoot In For Monsters

So I guess this means Reboot Ralph (formerly known as Joe Jump) will be staffing for production earlier.

... Disney said today that it is moving release dates for a pair of 3D animated films. Its Pixar prequel Monsters University is moving back, from Nov. 2, 2012 to June 21, 2013. To fill that spot, the studio is moving up Reboot Ralph from March 22, 2013. ...

Good news for potential employees at WDAS. Management will have to fill the pipeline sooner to meet the earlier release date.

Reboot was known as Mr. Jump in an earlier incarnation. Robert Iger gave it an approving nod back when David Stainton was still at the helm, then it fell out of favor when Mr. Lasseter took over, then it got resurrected when a reimagining of the story happened.

Animated properties are never truly, completely dead. Sometimes they are in deep hibernation, but somebody breathes new life into an old concept and ka-boom! Ka-bam! The comatose movie comes back to life.

mars needs moms and gnomeo and juliet. Enough said (although both were better than rango).

Given that Reboot isn't starting animation until roughly September, sounds like this will be yet ANOTHER compressed schedule, with yet ANOTHER hire-and-fire/layoff cycle.

Disney folks, you officially have my pity.

But don't worry, management really, really wants to get on a steadier production schedule. Where staffisn't hired and laid off, hired and laid off. Really.

Any year now.

Animation on Tangled didn't start until February for a November release date. Reboot's schedule is already adding an additional 6 months onto Tangled's production schedule.

Who said they were? Oh...NO one. But no one cares, either, because they both were released by the same company. Disney.

If they are at Disney now, they're golden, not pitiable.

Resting assured of work up there around the bend makes the slow, leisurely days now (with that steady paycheck) that much more enjoyable.

Those folks who are the future "hire-and-fires" are the ones to pity, however, by now they should know what is in store for them.

Are you kidding me? Don't get too comfortable because being there now will not protect you once the politics get heavy again.

If any NEW and CHEAP young blood shows up with all the new hires, and they make nice and do good work, then all the OLDER and MORE EXPENSIVE artists had better be ready for what will come their way.
Learn from history { not that long ago, think Tangled }
Realize they will let go veteran artists just to keep everyone fearful.
It's a win win for the company. Artists work harder fearing loosing their jobs, { free overtime } THEN when they do loose the job, the company gains by hiring the younger happier less costly artist.
It's the ol' 1950's management style.
Here's a solution.
Go to Dreamworks.

Isn't Dreamworks laying off right now? I heard they had to let some people go because of the Croods stalling in story.

Disney didnt let people go based on salary.

In fact, most of the "expensive" people are still here. They let the ones go who werent, for whatever reason, working. Sad but true.

Who said they were? Oh...NO one

It was implied, was it not?

Exactly.

If you are at Disney Animation now, you are an entrenched survivor. Not those who are the namesake superstars, or the top directors, but those rank-and-file ones who kept afloat through the ebb and flow of Lassiter, Catmul, Tangled, Bolt, MTR, Chicken Little, etc.

If you are at Disney now, you are golden!

^But don't let that make you feel comfortable.

Never feel comfortable. Anyone in any job at any time can be fired.

No.

A handful are being laid off. Most are being retained.
