Unconscious Bias - it's a thing.

In Zootopia, you can be anything you want to be. Just watch out for unconscious beliefs held by others...

First - congratulations to Clark, Byron, Rich and the entire crew of Zootopia for creating such a wonderful film!

Wonderful, and thought-provoking - because the message the film conveys: that bias and discrimination are real, damaging, and take work to address - is a little weighty.

Even more weighty is the notion that even if you think you are free of bias, you are likely not.

Unconscious bias - beliefs and social stereotypes that are formed outside one's conscious awareness - is real.

Acknowledging it ( and trying to counter it ) is on the front burner at Silicon Valley tech companies, as well as at least one animation studio.

It's worth reading more about, because as Judy Hopps says to Nick Wilde, "We can only solve it together."

It was a film we certainly have waited a long time to see!
