The Elephant Feature

From the Hollywood Reporter:

The Legend of Tembo will be the first animated feature from Digital Domain Media Group's Tradition Studios. ...

Tembo, if you don't know, is an elephant. A pachyderm. Spies and stoolies told us about the subject matter for DD Florida's first animated feature a week and a half ago, but we kept our mouths shut, since we were pledged to secrecy.

The other elephant features? Off the tops of our heads we can think of two: Horton Hears a Who, from Blue Sky Studios, and Dumbo the classic oldie from Walt's place.

Then there is Tusker, set up at DreamWorks Animation half a decade ago, then more recently at Imagi, and still-born at both places. Be interesting to see how Tembo performs as Digital Domain's first animated feature.

Meh. A bunch of third rate talent with not much to say.

The late Joe Grant had "Bitsy," another elephant feature in development over at Disney in the nineties. The management didn't go for it. Too Disney.

Story sounds a little similar to Steven Spielberg's new movie "War Horse"

War Horse isn't a particularly an "original" story. Nor was it a very good play. The puppetry in the play, however, was amazing.

Speilberg's ruined it by just making it another horse movie. And yes, I've seen both (although to be fair, the film is not yet 100% finished).
