Disney Administrative Cuts -- Long Overdue

Last week I received a call from a Disney exec officially telling The Animation Guild that there were going to be deep cuts in Disney staffing, but that it wouldn't impact artists, only corporate Vice Presidents and support staff... Diz topkick Robert Iger is making an incredibly smart move by slimming down the bloated bureaucracy that had become Walt Disney Feature Animation (and, I suspect, lots of other divisions) in the last eight years of Michael Eisner's reign. There had been smaller cuts before, but this looks as though they are now getting serious. A few years back, Disney Feature Animation had more vice-presidents than animators. That's when you know that something is...ah... seriously out of whack. (More on Mouse House downsizing here.)
