SIGGRAPH
I'll be heading off to Boston this weekend for SIGGRAPH. I'll be on the Is a Career in Computer Graphics Possible? Part 2: Dedication and Expectation panel. Of course, this being my first SIGGRAPH, I have no idea myself what to expect, but I'm looking forward to it (especially because it's in Boston).
I'll give a report when I get back. And if any of you have any suggestions for making it a good time, I'm all ears.

Go to the "Cheers" bar, and find out if anybody knows your name.
Dear Kevin, go to the North End and have some good Italian food. Go over the Cambridge, stand in Harvard Yard and soak up the brainy atmosphere- good bookshops. The John F Kennedy library is very good. Take a drive to Lexington and Concord, but beware! In 1775 two British officers got so lost they held pistols to Paul Revere's head to get directions. If you ever got lost in the outer suburbs of Boston, you would sympathize. Have Fun!
It's quite ironic that two of the most notorious "churn and burn" shops are represented on the panel. Our studio is full of Sony and EA refugees who finally got fed up and decided to go someplace where they could work, but also have a life.
Yeah, I thought the panel composition was a touch, uh, ironic, too.
Tom, I'll try to squeeze in some of your suggetions. Thanks.
I'm witness to the fact that the younger generations are made to feel guilty if they don't put in 20 to 30 hours extra of OT. And I say doing OT should be optional, nobody can/should force you to, or make you feel guilty into it...
Especially at Weta where they don't even pay ot, only straight time...I know a couple of friends who told me they were expexted to put in up to 80 hours a week there!!!
