Bill Damaschke ... one of the Big Fish at DWA ... is half right:
"We cast people at the beginning of their comedy careers who are big stars by the time the movie is released," he says, referencing Jack Black, a relative unknown when the studio tapped him for "Shark Tale" ...
... Because what he leaves out is that DreamWorks Animation also casts a lot of mega stars as voice actors in their movies. Not saying that's necessarily wrong, but they're the ones who kind of started the trend. Pixar and Blue Sky Animation do it far less ....

b/c Bill has some kind of awesome psychic x-ray animation god super-powers that allow him to see the future and foretell jack black's trajectory of amazing box office smashiness beyond sharktale!
Damaschke is a shill. Jack Black was not a "relative unknown" when tapped for "Shark Tale." Relative for Damaschke's age, perhaps.
Still, what accounts for the tons of money wasted on big named actors that failed to bring in box office? .
Will he take credit for that, too? I doubt it...
You know how to tell if fish is fresh (big or not)?
It doesn't smell, and has clear eyes.
DW needs some new fish.
Starring in Shallow Hal and School of Rock makes you a "relative unknown"? Geez, Hollywood is a tough town!
btw, Blue Sky/Fox cast Jack Black first in the original Ice Age as Zeke (2002). They were also first with Will Arnett (Ice Age 2), Jonah Hill (Horton) and Dan Fogler (Horton), all of which were cast to DWA features afterwords.
I hear Damaske is looking to hire hottie Ruth Buzzie to star in his next cartoon.
To quote Rover Dangerfield, "Wow, this is a tough room..."
Look kids, Uncle Walt raided voice talent off of the radio as did Chuck, Tex and the rest of the gang. Using known voices and personalities is not something that the Garden Gnome of Glendale came up with all on his own.

I love that line! ahahahahahaha....

The difference is that the radio performers were GREAT VOICE ACTORS, and not half baked actors with a recent hit and a lousy voice. I don't think Ukelele Ike made $10 million off voicing Jiminy Cricket, either. And HE deserved it!
And how dare you call Dameske a garden gnome. That term is reserved for jeffrey. Dameske is the lawn jockey.
Why should we feel sorry for the voice actors, anyway? At least, unlike us, they occasionally enjoy the leverage of being considered essential to a production.
