The Cold Shoulder Ends

ASIFA is off Diz Co.'s naughty list.

The 39th annual Annie Awards, a celebrated but controversial prize in the world of animation, announced its "call for entries" on Thursday -- and in a major change from last year, TheWrap has learned that Disney/Pixar will be among the companies submitting entries.

... [T]hough Disney/Pixar has made no formal announcement, a source with knowledge of the ASIFA process says the studio will once again take part in the organization and its awards show. ...

ASIFA has gone through some seismic changes recently. New leadership. New awards procedures. Fresh outreach. I've pretty much lost interest in shiny gold statues, what with the explosion of awards ceremonies (SAG, ASIFA, MTV, Oscars, People's Choice, where will it end?) But I know they help commerce, and enhance the ability of our fine, entertainment conglomerates to remain solvent. So if one of the awards societies and a large company are now smooching and making up, I'm all for it.

Great. Just in time to not recognize any of the Tangled work.

Sadly, the "leadership" of asifa Hollywood has gone from tolerable to FAR worse. It's such a shame. I'm glad Disney/Pixar has finally forced them to make changes to their lack of transparency, but knowing who's in charge at asifa doesn't exactly inspire confidence that it will truly change.

That's it huh?

Just like that......they're allowed back in whenever they feel like it.......and if they "have a tantrum" sometime in the near future, they can just drop ASIFA again.

Back and forth.

WEAK!!!!

ASIFA is WEAK!!!!!

Let's hear it for the 2D, low budget, Winnie the Pooh. Who cares about the politics part.

Now that FAS (Tangled) isn't a [minor] threat to showing up PIXAR (TS3), they're willing to play again.

I love their movies, but hate their politics. Pathetic.

That might be true

Frankly, Dragon was as much of a 'threat" to TS3 as Tangled was.

That article lays out what Disney's concerns were, but there's no mention of what changes were made that specifically had Disney change their mind this year So what were they? It says that ASIFA rejected Disney/Pixar's proposal of a multi-studio panel of judges. Apart from a new president I don't get what the big diff would be.

Can anyone elaborate?

True, but the difference there would be like losing a fight to the kid down the street vs losing a fight to your little sister.

Wasn't part of the reason Disney/Pixar were complaining was that Dreamworks gave themselves an unfair advantage by buying their employees ASIFA memberships (or whatever it is that allows a person to vote for the Annie Awards)?

I'd like to thanks ASIFA for doubling their membership fees to ensure that studios and their employees can have memberships, making it more difficult for indie animators to join in and get noticed.

They need to dump frank gladstone ASAP. Nothing is worse for ASIFA than someone as untrustworthy as his ilk.

Couldn't agree more. gladstone is woefully I'll suited to run the asifa organization. They won't be getting any more membership money or support from me until he's gone.
