Born and reared in Toronto, Canada, Duncan attended Sheridan College. After a short period working fora small locally-based animaiton studios (which ultimately) went out of business) Duncan decamped for Los Angeles, where he found work at Hanna-Barbera and Ruby Spears, and animated on Brad Bird's Spielberg project American Dog.
