Universal says it will make money on this latest incarnation of Ms. White. It's useful to remember that the Disney version had a two-year reign as the highest domestic grosser to that point in time (1938). Box Office Mojo lists SW&SD as #10 (adjusted for inflation) domestically.
Meantime, in the here and now, Pirates! Band of Misfits has collected a pallid $28 million after 36 days of release, and Dr. Seuss' The Lorax has made off with $211.2 million after three months on U.S. theater screens.
