Mining the Vein of (Interstellar) Gold

While we're on the subject of the Mouse, there is this:

Disney is planning "Star Wars" spin-off movies in addition to the three sequels it has previously announced, Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger said Tuesday.

The Disney head said that Lawrence Kasdan is working on one script for the films and Simon Kinberg is working on another. They will focus on characters from the "Star Wars" universe, but Iger did not offer any additional details. He would not say how many stand-alone movies would be produced.
...

How many stand-alones will be produced? As many as the market will bear (nad probably two or three beyond that.)

As we often say, our fine entertainment conglomerates are not in the movie business for the art, but the commerce. The individual filmmakers? THEY can do the creative thing while performing their "work for hire." But let's not expect the big companies to think of very much beyond piles of moolah.

That's not what they are there for.
