Honors for Animation

Putting aside the face that animation IS a visual effect, a couple of animated films -- one of which has a lot of live-action in it -- took multiple Visual Effects Society awards.

Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" won four VES Awards at the 11th Visual Effects Society Awards on Tuesday evening at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. ...

"Pi" won for visual effects in a visual effects-driven motion picture, animated character in a live action feature motion picture for Richard Parker, FX and simulation animation in a live action feature motion picture for the "Storm of God" sequence, and compositing in a feature motion picture for "Storm of God." ...

The Disney/Pixar animated film "Brave" also earned four VES honors for animation in an animated feature motion picture, animated character in an animated feature motion picture for Merida, created environment in an animated feature motion picture for "The Forest" and FX and simulation animation in an animated feature motion picture.

In many ways, the two movies aren't so far apart. Both take us to natural splendors ... and show us characters ... created inside a computer.
