Whaa? A KFP Sequel?

It appears that Mr. Katzenberg is moving toward an announcement about a Kung Fu Panda sequel:

Katzenberg told analysts at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference in New York Wednesday morning, "I'm optimistic that all the things we need to make a great franchise and a great sequel will come together in the next few weeks or so."

Hmm. Another KFP movie. Could it be because KFP #1 did really, really well? That DreamWorks is a business that likes to make money?

Naah. They just have really good ideas for another one.

(Contrast DreamWorks craven, money-making ways to the pristine artistry of Pixar. Up there in Emeryville, no money-grubbing sequels* for them. It's all about the art and the vision.)

* Well, except for Toy Story #1, Toy Story #2, and the soon-to-be Toy Story #3, it's all about the art ... Oh. And the Bug's Life featurette at the parks. Except for those, it's all about the art.

The DTV sequel about the Furious Five is coming this November. And on the note of Madagascar, I just found out that we had the movie on DVD at home.

Well, there's a non sequitur !

Man, where's all that sarcastic anti-Pixar hostility coming from , Steve ? John or Ed look at you funny in the hallway at Dis or something ?

Yeah, I'm sensing a bit of anti-Pixar sentiments not just from Steve but from quite a few other people recently. Did they lay off a bunch of animators or something? Or maybe because they won't unionize? What's the deal?

I can generalize for the animation's industry feelings about Pixar. Pixar acts like their poo don't stink. I am sure its an incredible place to work. I am very curious to find out exactly what a typical animator and story artist gets paid. Any ideas?

"Pixar acts like their poo don't stink"

Now THERE'S a "feeling." With no proof.

At least we know where you've been sniffing.

I can see Pixar fans acting like their poo doesn't stink, but I've never seen anything condescending come from the animators themselves... Though that's the million dollar question. Is that why Steve and others are knocking Pixar down a couple notches? Because they passed John Lasseter in the hall and John turned their nose up at them and acted like he's the king?

Otherwise it just smells like a bunch of "haterade" to me.

Pixar's poo doesn't stink. Neither does Lasseters.

It smells like fresh, newly-minted money.

7.5 billion to be exact.

Just having a little fun, anticipating the anti-DreamWorks, pro Pixar commentary that pops up around here on a semi-regular basis.

(Is it coming from Pixar employees? Fans? I'm guessing fans, but since it's anonymous, I really couldn't say.)

DreamWorks and Pixar are just companies, folks, not Renaissance workshops. They are businesses, each with their own business models.

They both make fine, popular films, and they're doing well. Bully for them.

Out of curiosity, is there any reason why Pixar isn't union now that they fall under the Disney umbrella? And is there any reason why they never became union before?

you mean besides the kool-aide the workers drink? They're not in LA county...

Sure. Several.

Pixar has been resolutely union-union since its inception, Ed Catmull and John Lasseter are not pro-labor guys, and Pixar is a separate division of the Disney Co., unfettered by the labor contracts of Walt Disney Pictures and Teleivision.

Thanks for asking.

Pixar doesn't want to be union....its kind of obvious isn't it.

I'm not sure what"union-union" means, but I assume he meant "anti-union"
