Now with Add On!
Friday results are perfectly satisfactory for this time of year, aided by seven new entrants into the frenetic box office derby.
The brand new (and semi-animated) Beverly Hills Chihuahua opens with $7.8 million to climb onto the top spot, while Eagle Eye hangs tough with a take of $5.5 million ... .
Religulous, though down at #10, has the second-best per-screen average wtih $2,241 and a $1.1 million gross.
What with all the new Fall traffic, Igor has vanished from the Top Ten.
Add On: B.H. Chihuahua inhales $29 million in its opening weekend ...
Eagle Eye declines a respectable 39%, and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist* find $12 million worth of takers.
Sadly, Igor is mauled by the small Mexican dog and left bleeding in the rose bushes. The hunch-backed one is down 68.4% in his third go-round, by far the steepest drop of any movie in the Top Twenty. This weekend, he earned $1.7 million of his $17 million total.
The Master won't be pleased.
* For a heart-stopping moment, I thought William Powell and Myrna Loy were making a comeback ... but no such luck.
