The Last?

The final curtain, we're informed, is near ....

Even fairy tales must come to an end.

The once-upon-a-time spoofing that began with 2001's Shrek will conclude when Shrek Forever After, the fourth computer-animated comic adventure starring the hygiene-challenged ogre — and the first in 3-D — arrives May 21

Sorry, but I don't buy this "conclusion" thing.

Did Sinatra ever really retire? Did Cher actually give her last "farewell" concert?

Of course not. The end only comes with death, and even that won't stop Shrek. The franchise pulls down too much money.

Good news indeed. This blight on the animation landscape can't be too soon forgotten.

Oh, I expect they can just give the franchise a rest, then start in with the shot-for-shot Mo-Cap remakes of the four previous "classic" Shrek films. (all in 3D of course). "The beloved classic Shrek as you've never seen him before : New , improved details -- See more nose hair, see every pore, see the dirt under his fingernails, see the food particles stuck between his teeth, so realistic." Yay !

Go away trolls.

Shrek has been great for animation by empowering DW to maintain one of the biggest employers in the business.

I actually liked the first Shrek. It came out when I was in college studying animation. I remember being blown away by the visuals and laughing at the story and characters.

Now Im in the biz (4 films in!) and I still look at Shrek with fond memories, but I also think it's time for him to retire. Everything I hear about the fourth film is positive, so if they go out on a high note, then thats cool. I just hope they dont go crazy with TV spinoffs. Is the Puss In Boots film still being developed?

But I agree, there's no denying that the Shrek franchise HAS been a force for good in our industry, even though there are some (bigwigs even) who hate Shrek. I see it for what it is, and overall, its a good thing.

But am I looking forward to Princess and the Frog way more than Shrek 4? OH yeah.

Apparently Chris Miller is directing. Release date is Nov 4, 2011, one month before Pixar's Bear and the Bow comes out.

I actually do believe that Shrek's actually ending. Also remember that they're making Kung-Fu Panda sequels, as well as the Nick series for the new movie franchise. I consider it as a "Passing the Crown" sort of deal. Shrek had it's run and Dreamworks has found another cash cow in their hands.

Any chance for Chris Miller & Phil lord to land and DW to direct something as awesome as CWACOM?
