Ratatouille Death Watch Continues

And that anemic Disney/Pixar underperformer just keeps .... making money ...

Fun-loving toon easily remained the market leader at the international box office over the Oct. 26-28 frame, with a hefty haul of $22.5 million, nearly double that of its closest competitor. That bumped up the international cume to $348.2 million, bringing the pic’s worldwide total to $553.4 million.

If poor little Remy doesn't watch out, he's going to underperform on up to $600 million ...

Uh, no offense Steve, but how long are you gonna beat this dead horse? Seems like these remarks may be better suited over at the Jim Hill comments section. For the most part, the only time you become overtly opinionated/defensive, is on the topic of "Pixar",(the industry darling/lighting rod). We typically enjoy your daily musings and hands-on information. Cheers D.

Keep it up Steve.

Unlike Mr. Hill, you actually enjoy what Pixar has to offer.

I hope you're as concerned about other non-union studios as well.

What's that old expression - repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth?

Kudos to Steve for calling JH on his attempts to create "truth".

Yep, I'm concerned about other non-union studios (and getting them to be, you know, not non-union.)

And I'm concerned with the overall health of the animation business ... because if its sick, a lot fewer people are working.

That's the way I've always taken the Rat posts here-not as rah-rah boosterism but as a voice of reality where the film's success is concerned.
I don't work up north, but personally I have a HUGE stake in its being not mis-identified as a "disappointment" because 1)it in no way truly is, business-wise, and 2)it happens to be a great animated film, imho. Good film=monetary sucess=healthy animation industry.

As far as beating a dead horse, it's the ERRONEOUS info that keeps getting quoted as fact IN THE MEDIA that requires an animation business blog such as this to continue to flog the errors.

Steve,

re: someone said that you're beating a dead horse...

Keep beating that Dead Horse's Ass until he offers up a mea culpa or shuts up with his "Pixar is slipping" sniping. As you know, it's not just about Pixar , it's about the perceived health of our industry. I've seen too many articles quoting GrimHill Media about the "underperformance" of Ratatouille. He needs to offer a retraction.

Pixar demands the attention.

as other studios hemorrhage money on releases or are recently put up for sale it is worth noting a studio that consistently excels.

i wish more studios in LA were like Pixar. and union.
