Wall Street might be soured on MvA's robustness overseas, but the numbers are, I think, encouraging:
"Monsters" showed decent staying power in its soph sesh with $26.5 million at 7,400 in four dozen markets ...
"Monsters Vs Aliens," which has cumed $92.7 million overseas, showed strong traction in the U.K. with a 13% hike to $4.4 million and in Spain with an 18% increase to $3.3 million. Australian coin declined only 15% to $2.1 million while French grosses edged down 4% to $1.9 million and Brazilian biz was off only 6% to $1.2 million.
With domestic "Monsters" biz at $141 million, the frame boosted the toon's worldwide gross to $233.7 million ...
When all the greenbacks and krohner, pounds aned pesos have been raked in, MvA will end up in the $400 to $500 million range, world box office wise. Maybe a tad higher.
It's interesting how the former Disney Animation topkick is outpacing the current Disney supervisors in the money-at-the-boxoffice department. How much longer this trend continues, I donno. But it's been going on for a while now.
