Fantastic Mr. Fox goes wide ....
Wes Anderson's animated feature "Fantastic Mr. Fox" -- which 20th Century Fox expanded to a wide release Wednesday after a couple of weeks of bicoastal bookings -- ranked eighth for the day, with $1.1 million from 2,027 playdates.
... and it appears that Mr. Anderson's latest may not be a barn burner at the turnstiles. I expect Alvin and his chipmunk companions will be stronger competitors at the box office, as will The Princess and her frog.

It's a cute film, and Anderson's best. But that's not saying much as most of his films are quirky oddities at best. I"m glad it was made, but I sure wish it was doing better.
I haven't heard anything negative about Mr Fox so far.
The important thing about people supporting feature films. If you really want a film to succeed- BUY A TICKET ON THE FIRST FRIDAY OR SATURDAY it opens. The Hollywood establishment counts those two first days and makes an estimate for Sunday, and uses that number to decide your ranking for the weekend, in effect, to declare your film a hit or a dog.
No matter how well your film does ultimately, it can't shake that first weekend thumbs down.
That's why I snuck into christmas carol. After 3 weeks, it's almost made 90 million, which for it's cost makes it an expensive flop. I doubt it'll make it's money back too fast, because people don't want to look at ugly things during the holidays.
Hmmm...could it be that Fox is stinking up the box office because of bad promotion and lousy scheduling? (cough cough *Astro Boy* cough cough) ;)
That horse is so dead its already glue
I bet it won't stick, even as glue.
So I guess Fox failed because it's crap. Fair enough.
