Disney Feature might not have the highest-grossing animated features just now, but there is this:
Disney's "Prep and Landing" was animation's big winner at Saturday's Creative Arts Emmys.
The ABC holiday special was named Outstanding Animated Program and also won three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievements in Animation: background key designer William M. George III; art director Andy Harkness; and storyboard artist Joe Mateo. ...
Talking to the folks who worked on P & P, I detected a teensy bit of unhappiness when outsiders would say, "That was a great Pixar special ...".
As one of the people working on it said:
"Pixar didn't do this. It was developed at Disney in Burbank. ..."

A good showing for the Rodney Dangerfield of animation studios.
Congratulations.
The creative lights are burning bright at the Mouse House.
YAAAYYYYYY!!!!!! I'm so happy for Disney Animation. "Prep and Landing" is the best TV Christmas special since "Frosty the Snowman" and is almost the equal of "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer". It's in grand company, and I'm so glad it's getting some of the kudos it deserves. Hmmm...I still have it on my DVR...think I'll go watch it again...yay, Christmas in August!
I don't know if the people at Disney read this blog, but if they do, I'd just like to say: Thank you for brightening my holiday with your wonderful special. And thank you especially for the way you handled Santa. Too often in more recent movies and specials, he's been portrayed as this chintzy gift-shop joke, or as a shabby peddler (that Narnia movie), or as a fat doof with no magic in him. You gave him back his magic. Your version of Santa Claus was classic - he was hearty and powerful and generous and kindly, and just a little awe-inspiring. Thank you for that. I look forward to MORE adventures with the REAL Santa, plus Lanny and Wade. Oh, and Thrasher. We can't forget Thrasher! And could Vixen be a lady Reindeer? That would be awesome. And congrats on your well-deserved awards.
I'm happy for Stevie, Mac and Joe Mateo. And the rocket-fueled sled was so Doug Bennett........
Prep and Landing got right what nobody else seems to get: Don't goof around with Santa.
You can have all your jokes about the elves, and make them wear business suits and ties, and joke about their pension plan...
But none of that *ever* messes with Santa. P&L has the real Santa Claus. It's the only thing in 20 years who played Santa straight, and not modern, hip, "a cockeyed take" or whatever else tried to make Santa "hip", because we're all so cynical nowadays.
Thanks to the Prep and Landing crew for making Christmas even better.
So are they going to turn Prep and Landing into a film, ala: Winnie the Pooh with a couple more specials and then put them together in a film? I remember hearing that a while back.
Excellent news.
Some good news for a change at the mouse house. However I hope its not too late. I heard that they were thinking of firing out half of everyone in the hat building and moving in DTV people.
people hear the dumbest things.
Not only are they not moving the DTV people, they're giving them the second floor of the Sonora building.
The DTS unit, (with it's soon to be announced new name) will move to MUCH bigger surroundings across the street. The building is being designed by the same person who designed Pixar's space. You can thank Tink and the new franchise for the big move.
insert " I really hope Tangled does well" here.
cause I havent heard it enough times.
anything disney is sooooo 80's....
"anything disney is sooooo 80's...."
I think you mean sooooo 90's, because that's when the bulk of the films you're attributing to your snide remark to happened.
But snide remarks about Disney are sooooo yesterday.
Wake up and realize it's a brand new day. Find something else to bash and hate.
;)
So what is the new name of Disney Toon Studios?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Bueller?
