Handicapping Animation Box Office
Today I was loping about DreamWorks Animation's Glendale campus, and came across some veteran animation artists who were guesstimating what the domestic theatrical grosses of some upcoming animated epics might be. There are three estimators here, and the estimates diverge somewhat. But here are the educated guesses:
"Ice Age 2"
$160 million
$120 million
$ 95 million
"Cars"
$320 million
$225 million
$195 million
And how did they do with the recently released animated hit "Hoodwinked"? (This picture was produced in Asia, picked up by the Weinstein Co.)
"Hoodwinked"
$40 million
$35 million
$16 million
The animation pros' accuracy? Well, "Hoodwinked" has grossed $50.5 million to date, and appears to be very close to the end of its theatrical run.
