Larry C.'s Hollywood Tales
Larry C. Remembers
On Writing For Walt:
I wrote a lot of Walt Disney's spoken intros for the Disneyland TV show. I'd known him a long time, and I tried to write in the way that he spoke. Not exactly, of course, but to use words that I knew he used....
One week an outside writer did Walt's intro, and he used the word "modicum." We were in a story meeting going over the draft, and I said: "Walt, I don't think you'd use the word 'modicum.'"
Wrong thing for me to say. Walt lifted his eyebrow, glared at me and said: "What do you mean I wouldn't use the word 'modicum?! I use it all the time! modicum...MODICUM...MODICUM!!"
