I would say the Mouse is trying to insure all its bets are covered. It's spending big gobs of money on its tent poles and wants to insure there are profits at the end of the production pipe.
Wouldn't surprise me if there are on-going negotiations to get the costs down for their big fat franchises, particularly the pirate movies.
