TAG's 401(k) Plan, now seventeen and a half years old, won the bronze award from the Plan Sponsor Council of America for its mail campaign to enroll new participants. The PSCA said ...
... Much of the Animation Guild members' work is temporary, and because members have to re-enroll in their 401(k) Plan each time they move to a new studio, it's a challenge keeping people in the plan.
With a goal of increasing participation, the plan sponsors created a uniquely branded piece closely associated with the work done by guild members. Working with the guild's business representative (who is in the field talking to members), gave the plan sponsors insight into what could work to help members save for retirement.
The result is a branded piece with a cartoon image urging participants to remember to enroll and have "no more excuses."
Despite the challenges of paper enrollment, the Animation Guild 401(k) Plan was able to achieve its goals by leveraging the cultural environment of their employees and create something that resonated. The response rate was over 8 percent with 135 new enrollees.
An eight percent response rate sounds kind of pathetic, but the usual response to enrollment campaigns is 1.5%.
Looked at that way, eight percent is freaking oustanding.
Oh, and by the way, there are still TAG 401(k) enrollment meetings happening.
