Most Southern California locals know exactly where this freeway is in this Ralph Hulett Oil painting when they see it: the 5 Freeway just south of Santa Clarita/Valencia, above the interstate as it rises out of the San Fernando Valley on the way to Castaic...
This piece was painted back in the sixties, when Valencia was a small bedroom community in the process of becoming. The overpass that was knocked down in the '94 earthquake and rebuilt had not, in 1965, been built at all.
Time flies.
