Speaking of Josh Meador, here's a Meador landscape from the collection of animation vet John Emerson. (TAG board member Carla Fallberg sent the above image our way...)
Mr. Emerson, recently retired from a long career at Disney, comments:
"Josh did this 5 1/2 by 7 1/2 painting in his home studio while I watched him. It was a demonstration of picking up bits of color from the palette with the knife and not over mixing before painting. This keeps the colors from becoming muddy. He did all this in about 5 minutes. I’m still amazed."
John says that he first watched Meador paint when he was at a family camping trip at El Capitan beach above Santa Barbara. John was then I was 11 or 12.
Josh Meador was an amazing talent, in a lot of different directions. It's easy to see why he headed up Disney's effects department for so many years.
