“Rio” filmmaker Carlos Saldanha is in talks to make his live-action directing debut with 20th Century Fox’s sci-fi movie “Rust,” which Joe Cornish (“Attack the Block”) exited several weeks ago, two individuals familiar with the family-friendly project have told TheWrap. ...
Saldanha co-directed the global blockbuster “Ice Age” and “Robots” before taking the solo reins of “Ice Age: The Meltdown.” He went on to direct “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” and “Rio,” and recently wrapped “Rio 2,” which Fox will release on April 11, 2014.
Mr. Saldanha, a native of Brazil, has been with Blue Sky Studios from its early days. If the Rust deal comes to fruition, he joins a long list of animation directors who have journeyed to the "important" side of filmmaking.
TAG blog interviewed Mr. Saldanha back at the start of 2012. Seems like only yesterday.
* Frank Tashlin. There are, of course, many others: Brad Bird, Andrew Stanton, Tim Burton, Jerry Reese, Rob Minkoff, etc., etc.

And on the French side, Sylvain Chomet ( Triplets of Belleville ).
If only you knew the power of the Dark Side...
What "dark side?" What an ignorant comment. No one cares about animation as much as they do about good film making. Sadly, neither chomet nor saldahana--like stanton before them--are equipped for the job in live action.
Uh, I think it's a JOKE.
Animation is now what the congloms want to get into in the worse way. It's "very, very important."
