Minimal Drop For Robinsons

In the second lap of the Box Office Derby, Blades of Glory and Meet the Robinsons again finish in the Win and Place positions. But that's not what's most interesting about Friday's chart...

Blades of Glory dropped from $12 million last Friday to $9 million this Friday, a remarkably small decline. But look at Robinsons.

Last Friday it took in $7.7 million to cop the second spot. And this Friday it gathered in $7,025,000... which is a microscopic decline in box office terms.

A big part of this can be attributed to the Easter holiday and a lot of schools being out, but it bodes well for Robinsons' longer term prospects in the marketplace.

Update: The new entries Are We Done Yet?, Grindhouse, and The Reaping finish their debuts at #3, #4, and #5 and fall under the continuing juggernaut of Numero Uno Blades of Glory (with a 30.3% Easter decline and a $68.4 million box office total) and...

Number Two Meet the Robinsons (having a fall-off of 32.3% and a $52.2 million total at the end of the second weekend.)

See comments in first posting about how refreshing the direction of Steve Anderson was on this movie. Not just the creative direction, but how he and producer Dorothy Kim treated the crew - with kindness and respect. For once, a WDFA movie that was fun to make - and is fun to watch.

This is of course an estimate but that said, anyone know the production costs ?

Disney doesn't release figures on this, but I can assure you, every dollar we spent can be seen on-screen.

- Exact Dorothy McKim Quote.

I'll second those first 2 comments. Steven is a rare person in this industry. I've never seen a director as considerate and kind as him.

He's making this movie with you, not just 'services rendered, thank you very much.'

This film like Disney's last CG animated film was very expensive, especially after so much finished animation was completely redone as a result of the 'Lassiter affect'.

if it can maintain a slow but steady run through April that would be good for Disney. all bets are off by the end of April.
