Long-Haired Girl Keeps Frolicking

Internationally, the movie named Tangled-Rapunzel goes on and on.

'Tangled' Tops Int'l Box Office for Third Time This Year With $23.7 Mil

Tangled claimed in its 11th week of overseas play the foreign theatrical circuit's No. 1 box office position for the third time this year, roundly besting Sony's The Green Hornet ... Tangled opened No. 1 in Spain, grossing $5.6 million from 472 venues, while maintaining its first-place rank in its second U.K. stanza with $7.2 million from 434 sites – down just 11% from the opening weekend -- for a market cume of $17.1 million ...

It's a reasonably safe wagerthat Tangled will move past the half billion dollar marker without difficulty. (Of course, it still has to make $3 gazillion to break even, so it still has a bit of a ways to go.)

Yogi Bear now has $130 million in worldwide grosses. The Yogster is rapidly closing on the century mark domestically.

Tangled will pass $500 million on holdovers easily and it still has Japan (a huge Disney market) left. It's going to come awfully close to $600 million.

And kicking Yogi's ass gives me some kind of closure for the way the chipmunks dominated The Princess and the Frog (which actually made twice as much as Yogi, a 3D pic, as well) last year.

All in all, great for Tangled!

I'm sure Floyd is happy about Tangled. Please read his posts again.

And kicking Yogi's ass

Actually, Yogi is doing much, much better than anyone predicted after it's anemic opening, and it's held up over the weeks after it's release very well. Considering that it cost about a quarter of what Tangled cost to produce and market, it's a genuine success, too.

Why is it that so many animation fans can't just be happy for their favorite film/studio to be successful. Why does there need to be failure for everyone else? It's a sad, pathetic attitude.

If Tangled is making more money than Yogi then is really kicking Yogis ass no matter how big or little the budget is.

As simple as that.

Didnt expect Yogi to make that much money and have not seen it. And with their reported production budget and this kind of profit, get ready for Yogi 2 whether we like it or not.

Yogi 2 yeah... on DVD.

So it must pain you no end that Despicable Me, Toy Story 3, HTTYD, Twilight, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter 17, and Shrek 4 all kicked Tangled's ass, right?

Wow, you are so ridiculous, are you really going to compare Tangled with arleady well established franchises?

Probably Dragon and Despicable Me Will be surpassed in a few weeks.

Why so bitter Steve?

Every post about Tangled from you has to have some jab about "of course it cost a gazillion..." blah blah. Why can't you post something positive and leave it at that? Is it just Disney? This particular film? What?

One can easily argue that WDAS wrote off the cost of RAPUNZEL as a loss. Tangled on the other hand is just the cost of that film. Don't include UNBRAIDED and all that came before. Those were shut down. Tangled is one film. Let's leave it at that.

Your lucky to have access, and everyone is lucky to have the information shared. Stop being so negative.

Why so bitter Steve?

You're mistaking sarcasm for bitterness. Steve has been relentless in highlighting that Tangled has done much, much better than many people (including some in Disney management) expected. The parenthetical comment he added about it needing to make a gazillion was obviously a jab at the people who are still trying to label Tangled a failure, despite the huge box office success.

Steve hasn't missed a chance to show how well the film is doing. Try to read without so much bias, and stop looking for enemies where there are none.
