The Reporter notes that a well-loved animated feature is being repurposed.
... ABC is developing an hour-long drama based on Beauty and the Beast. ... ABC's Beauty and the Beast update comes as the network prepares for the Oct. 23 launch of Once Upon a Time, the dual universe drama revolving around Snow White ... and her long-lost daughter ...
Imagination and originality are sky high in Hollywood, as per usual.
I, myself, have long envisioned the Seven Dwarfs as a short version of The A-Team, leaving the mine and fighting criminals, righting wrongs throughout the forest. I can see Doc now with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, charging through the underbrush: "Cover me boys! I'm going in!"
Television at its finest.

Actually, this is a 'reimagining' of the fairy tale and not the Disney movie. So, no harm done.
Btw, for record's sake, Disney was planning a live-action take on the Disney movie until fairly recently, with Menken and Rice working on new songs but it was ultimately shelved.
"but it was ultimately shelved."
WHAT???
Soooooooo. It's okay to greenlight a very bad screenplay based on the Muppets, or a very run of the mill high school Prom comedy (which, thanks god, didn't work on the box office, it wasn't even shown in international markets)...
I work at one of Disney's international offices, and in order to make the dubbed versions of the films, we read all the screenplays (and obviously watch the movies long before they're released...) Most of them are AWFUL!!! They are totally doing what our technical director said "bullshit" stories with lots of cgi...
Beauty would've worked! People love it! The musical versions in Europe and Latin America were HUGE!!! Mexico and Argentina are going through very tough financial moments but they all had sold out performances (even with Disney type of expensive tickets!)
The 3D version on international cinemas worked really well...
Well, "Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be..."
BTW, the muppets is TERRIBLE!!! The jokes are stupid, the storyline is stupid!!! Thanks God, it's VERY short... And this comes from a HUGE muppet fan who's worked on several muppet movies: I translated the dialogue and the lyrics for one of the international versions of "Muppet Christmas Carol", "Muppet Treasure Island", "Muppet Wizard of Oz" and "Muppets, letters to Santa Claus"...
The new one feels very much like "Muppets from space" (but, kudos to the publicity department for making it look cool and if you take a closer look, you'll notice that they're not revealing their cliched as hell storyline! (which, the muppets have already done in a past Christmas special)).
Anyway, it's going to be released against Hugo, and one week from Breaking Dawn.
