Those who practice the crafts of visual arts are very familiar with Wacom. They have been providing artistic alternatives to human-computer interfacing that have benefited many in our field.
From the Bamboo and Intuos tablets that started the pen to computer interface, Wacom have taken their technology to new levels in the last few weeks with the introduction of the Inkling and the upgrade to the Cintiq. While we are all waiting to see more of what the Inkling can do, the mark Cintiq has made on traditional animation is undeniable. In their latest upgrade, the Cintiq 24HD brings a bigger screen now with HD aspect, more flexible positioning, a wider viewing angle and better color depth and calibration capabilities.
While this blog leans more towards Guild specific studios and issues, we would be remiss if we didn't mention the latest offerings from the company that has become synonymous with the creation of our craft. After the fold, videos for your viewing pleasure.

Here's an age old question.
Which is the proper pronunciation........
A) Way-com?
B) Whack-com?
or
C) Way-kum?
Way-com.
In a video I found, a rep pronounces it "Wha-Kum".
I've always been fond of "Way-Comm".
"Wacom - because artists enjoy sitting in the dark 10 hours a day in front of a machine that radiates a suspicious and distinctly inhuman heat."
And the guy dressed in black is creepy.
Wha-Kum - correct
Nothing wrong with the Cintiqs, other than the hefty pricetag. But for individual artists like myself, there's the Asus e-Slate for portability. And its easy on the wallet.
A completely different animal. Eee Slate is a tablet PC. Cintiq is an input device.
I didn't care for the darn thing five years ago but now I'm a true believer and the Wacom Cintiq is my weapon of choice.
Technology is not your friend, working class, despite what the plumpy Pixar guy in the Hawaiian shirt espouses.
"Technology is not your friend, working class, despite what the plumpy Pixar guy in the Hawaiian shirt espouses."
Baloney. Only those who fear it are left behind. And what a shame, because it took far too long for many traditional animation artists to realize this, and lots of valuable information they may have to contribute has been lost in the process.
And as far as the guy in the Hawaiian shirt goes, he made several wonderful short films having to wait for hours and sometimes days just to see a few frames.
The future is now.
Yes, and the future is non-union. Surprise, industry wins again!
Cheers, mate!
That has nothing to do with computers. It has to do with a failure of imagination--union or not.
You sound like a teabagger--someone who expects everything for nothing. Ain't gonna happen--you have to WORK for what you want. And you have to pay your debts. Teabaggers refute this with ignorance and a lack of understanding of basic facts.
I love Wacom but why the infomercial on TAG ? where will you draw the line ? toonboom ? autodesk ?
What's the line to draw? I mentioned in my post why I wrote it:

If ToonBoom, Autodesk, Luxology, Adobe, etc. were to come out with something significant and noteworthy, I'd note it.

Does it? Do you? You obviously have bought into the notion that helping the conglomerates win means you win. Shallow thinking that will only bite you in the nethers soon enough.
How does that Kool Aid taste, Anon?
Seems I've touched a nerve. Don't hold your industry heroes in too high regard, fellow lefty. They are industrialists just the same. Silicon Valley is a non union town and they ain't doing you any favors, even with the neat and shiny new toys they let us play with at the studio. This is a labor blog, right?
Excuse me .. but your point was lost in your inane screed. Wacom is a corporation, and non-union, so I shouldn't be happy about an upgrade to one of the most useful tools the industry has at its disposal. In fact, *they* let *us* play with it.
Careful troll, Nurse Ratched is coming with her electrodes.
Ok, got it. Brrzzt!
I like my Cintiq tablet, but how did a drawing tool launch a political debate?
Hehe .. come on, Floyd. It's the TAG Blog. What *isn't* turned political here?
