French visual effects and animation giant BUF has finally unveiled plans to expand into Canada.
BUF, which has been eyeing Canada as a new international base for some time, is to launch a Montreal subsidiary, BUF Canada.
The expansion will create 125 jobs over the next three years creating CGI images for live action and animated movies.
BUF setting up in Montreal follows similar moves by Technicolor, Gravity VFX creator Framestore, Cinesite and Moving Picture Company, thanks to the offer of generous federal and Quebec tax credits and subsidies for digital work completed locally.
Aren't you glad we live on a continent where the undeserving poor are having their food stamps reduced, even as job creators are showered with moolah?
All, dear friends, is as it should be. FREE ENTERPRISE FOREVAH! RUGGED INDIVIDUALISM, FUCK YEAH!

From a visual effects artist in Paris, after Buf’s announcement that it will open a Montreal branch to qualify for tax incentives: “Buf, the old French company, is forced to send artists to Canada to win projects. That is really sad. I am young … so it’s not a problem for me, but for the oldest guys, the ones who built Buf and made its reputation, it’s not so good.”

And of course, those tax incentives that made Canada what it is today, haven for these companies.
