JURIED AWARDS

Winsor McCay Award – Walt Peregoy, Borge Ring, Robert Searle

June Foray – Art Leonardi

Special Achievement – Depth Analysis .

There's a wide range of nominees this year, including hand-drawn, c.g. and mo cap animation.

There will be those who maintain that "Tintin" isn't genuine animation, because it's got, you know, those live actors in it. But since "Snow White," "Gulliver's Travels" and "Anastasia" also had live actors, also mo cap of the hand-drawn variety, yet were still considered animation, I would say that the debates over what is animation and what isn't were staged some years ago. And decided.

Add On: DWA's Bill Damaschke weighs in on the animation biz in general, and Kung Fu Panda Deux in particular.

... “The movie was built on, ‘Why is there only one panda in the village?’” he said. After the first film, he said, the question people had was, Why is the goose that panda’s father?" ...

Someone wants to give Darren Norris an award for that cringe-inducing voice for Cosmo? Is he/she deaf??? That voice even bothers my dog.

Prep and Landing Naughty Vs Nice got a bunch of nominations.

Is it a bit too crass for me to plug it as premering tonight on ABC at 8:30?

Check Local Listings.

Again, Studio Ghibli gets dissed, as Kokuriko Zaka Kara is probably better then the other "best feature" nominees.

If only Arrietty was released this year in the states, it would have given me some reason to be interested in animated features this year.

Cars 2, Rio and Puss in Boots nomianted for best animated feature???

Quoting Consuela from Family Guy:

"No, no, no, no, no.

No."

I truly hate to say it, but this is a sad crop this year. Very little to get excited about (with a hand full of exceptions).

Is there a bake off to reduce the numbers ... some categories have 14
nominees ! its going to take an eternity to view all this to vote.
It was already a long process to vote .

It's a year with a lot of animation releases (features, shorts, TVs) and the Annies did it right to increase the amount of nominees.

Haha, a guy with pretensions of knowing good animation, quoting Family Guy to make his point. Oh, the irony.

I'm glad the foreign indie movies "A Cat in Paris", "Wrinkles", and "Chico & Rita" were nominated for Best Animated Feature.

I sincerely hope they all make it into the Oscar nominations.

Why wasn't 'Winnie the Pooh' nominated in the best feature category?

I can't believe 'Tintin' got nominated instead. It's not even animated. So much for objectivity.

Why wasn't 'Winnie the Pooh' nominated in the best feature category?

Two possibilities. Either Disney didn't submit it, or the nomination committee for that category didn't believe it was should get a nomination. If it was the latter, the people on that committee aren't going to talk publicly about the decision.

You can say whatever you want, but 1 minute of family guy is funnier than Cars 2, Rio and Puss in Boots PUT TOGETHER...

Can't believe that ugly mess rango got nominated for ANYthing.

Anonymous said...

It's possible Winnie the Pooh wasn't deemed long enough to qualify as a feature. It's under 60 minutes long, not counting the credits.

Yeah, all the other 7th graders agree, too!

Anonymous said...

But rango is even uglier and more poorly designed than even family guy--and that's saying a lot.

Go ahead, guys. Tell the credited animators on "Tintin" that their work isnt' animation. Tell it to their faces, you cowards.

--> Tell the credited animators on "Tintin" that their work isnt' animation.

This is a similar situation to all the publicity that Zemeckis put out ahead of Disney's ACC, wherein he touted the thoroughness of his mo-cap technology.

But then at awards time, he completely forgot all of that, and touted the outstanding animation in all of those "For Your Consideration...." trade ads.

It's just all PR crap, designed to drain more money from your pocket with a splashier ad-campaign after the awards are doled-out next year.

This has already been corrected on the Asifa site, but for Category 7, it is Ratchet and Clank, nor Ratchet and Clark, by Insomniac Games. :)
