Frankenweenie

Tim created the original in 1984. Time for an expansion and do-over.

The new feature -- still in work -- is in production in northern California. (The original can be found among Disney silver disks. Not well-received by studio management in '84, but times change do they not?)

The IA negotiated a contract with Diz Co., and we represent some of the artists. (We post the pictures because they became available today, and it's a major animation release, and ... why the hell not?)

I thought it was being done in London?

Yeah it's in production at Three Mills Studios in London...

I'm in serious error. I'm thinking of another stop motion production, "Cinderbiter," now underway near San Francisco.

"Frankenweenie" not there. My bad.

Actually, the movie is called "Shademaker" by Shademaker Productions (formerly Cinderbiter Productions).

I understand the confusion.

It is directed by Henry Selick and it will be released in 2013 and distributed by Disney.

Hard to keep up with all the title changes. Oh well ...

Well, even if this version is awful it can't be as bad as that crappy first version that Burton made and helped push him off the Disney lot.

So Burton hasn't had an original idea in quite awhile. How long before he makes a live-action feature version of Vincent?

The first version of Frankenweenie is a lovely half-hour, live-action, black and white mash-up of Frankenstein and Old Yeller. It is quite clever, and a pretty impressive first live-action film for Burton. I'm not sure it needs to be a feature, but I'll keep an open mind.

The Frankenweenie puppet looks an awful lot like Family Dog.

Can't wait to see this one. I loved his designs for Family Dog and am happy to see it carried over in this piece.

As far as original ides goes, most directors in Hollywood don't come up with them either.
