The Annecy Animation Fest...

For decades, the Annecy Animation Festival has been a major draw and magnet for the international animation community. Because the 2006 edition is taking place this month, we wanted to take a look back at Annecy Festivals Past...and some of the participants... A word about the photographs: They come courtesy animation vet Bob Balser, and were taken by animator Gene Dietch... John Hubley, for those who don't know, was a giant in independent animation and won three academy awards (he passed away in 1977), Jules Engel, the grand old man of Cal Arts (and before that a Disney artist), and animator Bill Littlejohn, the last President of the Screen Cartoonists Guild (among many other things) and Bob Balser. And finally, here's some snaps of Bill Hurtz, animator Gene Dietch, Lee Mishkin, and animator and Duck Soup founder Duane Crowther. Animation icon Grim Natwick, of course, needs no description from me.
