Our New House

Here, once again, is our new building at 1105 N. Hollywood Way in Burbank as it exists today . . . Great location, perfect size, and good parking. But looks that only a blind mother could love, along with a fragmented and partly unfinished interior. In other words, a world of potential, which we wanted a skilled architect to help us realize. And here are the winning results of our architectural charette. Architect Jeffrey Kalban knocked our socks off with his proposed design. The top image in this cluster is roughly the same view as the photo above. You can click on these images to make them larger. Note that these are not necessarily the final designs. Each architect was given a two-page summary of our needs and general specifications to work from. Now that we've chosen our architect, we'll work closely with him to fine tune this design so that it will fit us like a glove. Sorry that the last image is fuzzy. It's a low res scan of a low res scan. It shows the front of the building from the opposite corner, and gives a better feel for the stairway that will be added to the front of the building. I'll hold off posting the floorplan, since that will be undergoing a lot of tweaks, but Mr. Kalban conceived of an innovative floorplan that both unifies the building (the current floorplan feels like several buildings tacked together, which is exactly how this property evolved) and frees up some square footage.

The new building looks great! Even without an architect, it's an improvement to the current one. Can't wait to use the new building when it's done!
