2010's box office is now in the history books, so let us review.
Animation for the weekend was:
6. Tangled -- $10,008,000 -- $168,027,000
14. Megamind -- $585,00 -- $144,146,000
* Despicable Me -- $169,000 -- $251,201,000
(In case you're wondering, Little Fockers and True Grit finished in the "Win" and "Place" positions, raking in $26.3 million and $24.5 million respectively. ...)
And at the domestic box office, animation had a hell of a year. Regardez vous:
1. Toy Story 3 -- $415,004,880
7. Despicable Me -- $251,201,000
8. Shrek Forever After -- $238,395,990

11. Tangled -- $168,027,008

And Katzenberg thought Disney wasn't a "team player".
How about that 'Despicable Me', talk about success, made for 69M and returns almost as big as the other two combined! Very impressive numbers for that to be the biggest money maker.
Very true. But the patriot in me still has a hard time rooting for it since it was made in France.
Looks like Tangled is about to take the #10 spot in 2010 box office from The Karate Kid.
That will make five out of the top ten movies of the year animated films--is this unprecedented?
Also, that means six of the top ten movies were available in 3D. Animation and 3D are dominating at the box office.

No, just that we had more live-action flops this year. :)
Not unprecedented either (and Pixar was #1 that year, too), but rare.
I understand your patriotism, however I also believe that Despicable Me could have been made in the states for 69 mil or possibly less. That is a very healthy budget and these films should not be costing 150 - 260 mil then struggling to claim a profit.
