Yet another CG film that would have looked so much nicer in traditional flat line/pencil.

^^sounds like a VO actor who hasn't become a celebrity yet, eh?
You do realize even Disney in the early days of features rarely allowed VO actors to do parts in his films too. Go ask June Foray, she always had trouble getting Disney to cast her in a good part in a feature.
This is just the norm for feature films.
