Wage Kings

Wages for your favorite execs:

Rupert Murdoch ... made $33.3 million for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, up 46 percent from the year before. ... Leslie Moonves, who got $69.9 million, up 21 percent. ... Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman's $84.5 million in cash and stock made him the highest-paid CEO in America ...

It's still good to be the king. ...

All these fine folks are clearly worth every penny. Mel Brooks is right. Boy, is he right.

Yeah, because why on earth should people who effectively create entire media empires that employ thousands upon thousands of people around the world get to be rich when there are so many aimless losers who deserve to live in mansions just as much?

What is much more offensive than Rupert Murdoch rolling in money are the armies of the mid-level execs you find in animation who pull in six figures and either do virtually nothing or worse yet produce waves of sheer crap. Animation is swarming with former secretaries who now have a VP title who at best know nothing about the industry and at worst despise it and make everyone miserable with their ineptitude. At least with the very top executives you could argue that they earn their salaries by making decisions that could make or break the entire company. But these countless clueless dopes who call themselves executives are a waste of money, resources and space.

You Fox News haters are a riot. How it kills you that Murdoch's news channel is so successful, while your fave channel MSNBC founders, just like Air America did. Give the whining a rest already. Nobody's impressed. Nobody's going to stop watching Fox just because a bunch of sneering pseudo-intellectuals dump on it. Murdoch's salary is justified in my view. Robert Iger's, on the other hand, not so much. "Avatarland"? Give me a break.

It never fails to amaze me how libbies get their panties in a bunch over Fox News when EVERY OTHER MEDIA OUTLET from the main networks to every cable network to the Jon Stewart show to every pop singer leans WAAAYYY to the left and makes no bones about being obnoxiously vocal about it. What's the matter? The game not skewed unfairly enough in your favor? It's not enough that 99.9999% of the media carries your banner? You need it to be 99.999999999999999% ? Oh wait, of course, you want it to be 100% because you're all fascists at heart with no real love for 'open minded' discussion. You make moderates go running to the right if only to distance themselves from your constant screeching and squealing.
(I could now predict virtually every response from liberals with an error quotient of 1 or 2 punctuation marks but I won't bother)

It's interesting how someone who's 'panties' are clearly 'in a bunch', accuses everyone who doesn't think like him of the same.

The media does not give you an accurate view of the world, especially Fox...that goes for msnbc as well, and CNN.
BTW, John Stewart is a comedian, and what he does is called 'satire'. Only hillbillies would take the john stewart show as a news show, or treat it as one.
That said, what was that that thing Jesus said about a rich man going through he eye of a needle?...I thought Rupert was a X-tian....

You're right, Diablo. Rich people are all evil and it's a shameful thing to do things that make you wealthy. I guess we'll be seeing you volunteering at the homeless shelter all this week, right?

Yes, there is more to life than money, but not in your world. The real tragedy of the right is that they allow their intellectual libertarian philosophy of free will and individual responsibility to be twisted into crap policies by corporate money, religious zealots, and political theater. Rupert has been a master at using all of this trash to his own advantage, without your base even recognizing it, and he's finally getting a taste of his own medicine in the UK.

The Guardian, the NY Times, and all the people who helped in bringing Rupert to his knees are finally pulling the cover off the utter hypocrisy of your politics.

The failure of your policies from top to bottom stands at your feet more than it does at anyone's on the left. You want everyone to take deep moral responsibility for their individual actions, then take it. I don't see a single one of your leadership in government taking responsibility. So yes, you can take your NRA laws, your abortion laws, and your jingoist patriot laws and shove them right back up the right wing arses from which they came. And while you're at it, have Ted Nugent push a vaginal probe up there to help top it all off.

CURSES! Those irritatingly noble liberals have uncovered our secret plot to keep the common man poor and humble while simultaneously enslaving women and minorities! Damn their meddling!
All right, my right-wing companions... on to Plan-B! We must evacuate in our space vessels! Those heroic liberals have foiled our plans! FLEE!

Anonymous said...

ARGH! Now the liberals will be free to spread peace and brotherhood all over the earth! Everyone will share with each other and be happy all the time and sing songs together under their wise leadership! Suffering will be a thing of the past! Equality will be ubiquitous! Oh cruel fate, our plans of evil domination have failed!

When did I say that? That rich people are evil? Nice try. Just keep your strawman in your pants, you moron!

You can't believe in both space travel and intelligent design, so none of these arguments coming from the conservatives here make a lick of sense, not to mention the absurd fact that this is a labor sponsored blog. The level of stupidity astonishing.

Anonymous said...

That statement is filled with so much stupidness I don't even no where to begin.
Stop speaking for us atheists, Anon 1:09:00... you're giving us a bad name.

When did this blog stop being about the animation industry?
I don't get how so many union members can hate Fox and Murdoch as a businessman considering the animated shows on his network - the only major prime-time network that actually has animated hits - employ thousands of animation workers. If Fox shut down tomorrow, there would be a LOT of trouble in the industry.
Let him believe in whatever politics he wants... if he keeps people employed it's fine by me.

My panties are quite loose and, dare I say, comfortable.

Anonymous said...

It isn't that libbies have a problem with Fox News, it's that they have a problem with Fox News having a problem with everyone else.

I love it when they rant about the mainstream media - Guess what! Fox is mainstream media!

The point being, 2:01, the sooner the right divorces themselves from the Christian right, the better for all reasonable secular discussion. Until then, we will continue to get retarded Fox-sponsored public policies up our collective rectums. Free will debates from activist Evangelists is, as we see on Fox news, a train wreck. It is the most toxic and tragic mixture of pseudo-philosophy and right wing religion on this side of the globe. Most atheists would agree.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, but the can be said about the left and their 'claim' on women, minorities and special-interest groups.
NOTE TO EVERYONE: I don't give a shit about your religion, background, heritage, culture, or anything else that doesn't have anything to do with politics. So everyone shut the fuck up about all of it.

Anonymous said...

I know, especially Rupert. He should just shut the f up, I agree. Just make his free market argument with his network and keep the morons out of it.

Oh, wait, Fox wouldn't make a dime now, would it? Yeah, gotta bring in the morons to make it fun....

It's pretty much the same reason Ron Paul won't run as a Libertarian. He needs those pesky people and their MONEY.

Steve Hulett said...

Re the free market argument:

The Fed has made a habit of handing out free money to a chosen few. (And they're not people with small bank accounts.

As long as the Fed does that, the free market is kind of not really happening, you know?

Anonymous said...

That's because the free market only works in a system in which the government stays the hell out of the business of business.
You just made an argument in favor of the libertarian/conservative agenda.
If we didn't have such a bloated federal government, they wouldn't have the freedom to just take out money and bail out failed corporations.
Liberals love to scream "See? Capitalism doesn't work" but it's because we stopped being a capitalist nation a long time ago. You can't do shit in this country without the government climbing up your ass and living there.

"You can't do shit in this country without the government climbing up your ass and living there."

Or Google. Yeah let's trust corporations to look out for our best interests. When we had pure capitalism we had monopolies, unsafe working conditions, substandard wages, abusive child labors and unequal pay for minorities and women. I don't want to be part of that America.

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/12/mf_neuwirth_qa/all/1

The free market is alive and well and we all know that plenty of people are paying the bills with it under the radar. It's a smaller world than you think, and more connected than you want to admit. Libertarians are so friggin' blind to their own success stories. Your world is here and alive and kicking.

The small gov/big gov argument is f'ing window dressing. American pride just doesn't want America to LOOK like a third world country on the surface. But you pull the plug on government spending, you get the third world overnight, RP. You want to herald that in? Be my guest. In the end, it is just window dressing.

Oh, and some fucking expensive aircraft carriers we all get to pay for as 'defense' - another Libertarian trope.

Oh my god it's like talking to houseplants.

Libertarian is now code for I didn't vote for Bush like those other Republicans.

Yeah, that really worked when libbies forced us to run away in Vietnam, characterizing their efforts as a victory for peace and justice. Pay a visit to Cambodia's killing fields to see how well THAT worked out.

Fox News rules because it really tries to present both points of view. Yes, it screws up sometimes just like every other new service has screwed up. At least it hasn't maliciously skewed facts the way NBC has in the Zimmerman case. Why aren't you leftist whiners beating up on the Peacock the way you do the Fox?

Anonymous said...

^ Hilarious. There's someone out there who actually still thinks going to Vietnam was a great idea.

Can you believe? *snort*

Anonymous said...

NPR is fair and balanced. Fox News is clearly, undeniably not. They claim they are, loudly and obnoxiously, maybe to try and convince people that they are. But they clearly skew right wing, white Christian.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe that there are actually intelligent people that believe Fox News is presenting fair and balanced content...oh, wait...never mind. My mistake...there aren't intelligent people that think that way.

Anonymous said...

"Yes, it screws up sometimes..."

What the hell does this mean?!? Oh well, oops. Hacked into your phones illegally. Sorry about that. Just providing fair and balanced reporting for the tabloids. Is this their idea of embedded journalism?

News Corp was created specifically for right wing fanatics who idolize war and juicy headlines. It is not journalism, it is an unabashedly political animal. That is Rupert through and through.
