Fox to go Prehistoric

Word of Seth MacFarlane's latest animated venture has just made the trades:

Seth MacFarlane is getting into the Flinstones business.

"One of the first things that I drew when I was 2 years old was Fred Flinstone," MacFarlane told a roomful of ad buyers gathered in New York on Monday.

Fox Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly said the series came together in the past couple of days and will begin production right away. The Flinstones will premiere on Fox in 2013. This follows recent animated orders Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite, which will roll out in the fall and midseason, respectively.

Its always good to hear that our signatory studios are vying to capitalize on what's working while discovering new and, well .. not so new, ways to increase revenue. We'll be interested in seeing Mr. MacFarlane's interpretation of the Flintstones family and friends, as well as all new productions at Fox TV Animation.

I'm intrigued enough to be optimistic. I love the Flintstones, and assume WB wouldn't give McFarlene the rights if they didn't trust it... the show WAS on in primetime back when it originally aired. Family Guy is super hit or miss, Cleveland has been getting better, and I adore American Dad...

This will either go really, really well or really, really terribly. I hope it means they add another day for Animation Domination, they have too many shows to fill Sunday, even if they use the 7:00 and 7:30 slots.

Just imagine, new episodes of The Simpsons and The Flintstones back to back. It could be a bizarely wonderful thing.

Not sure why this guy doesn't set up his own animation studio. Another animated television show? Ummm, okay. Whatever.

What the hell? I thought it was April Fools or something. I can't believe anyone would let McFarlane close to the Flintstones. So Fred is going to become an unfunny moronic character who throws rocks at his wife probably. Clearly more wife bashing is the only thing that is going to remain from superfunny McFarlane.

Can't be worse than those awful Yogi Bear and Flinstones things that Spumco made. Man, those were awful!

But I, too, had to look at the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1.

"and I adore American Dad..."
