Outsourcing

It ain't just in Glendale and/or Redwood City anymore.

Madagascar 3 has a Bangalore connect, just as last year's Puss in Boots did. Technicolor, the DreamWorks dedicated unit in Bangalore, has done a significant amount of the animation and visual effects for the third installment in the franchise about a group of escaped zoo animals. So, you may see a long line of Indian names as the credits roll at the end of the movie which released on Friday.

Times Of India wrote last December about the contribution that Technicolor had made to Puss in Boots. The work they did for Madagascar 3 is even more, say people in Technicolor. The company has animators, lighting artists, special effects experts, atmosphere and volume metric experts, and image rendering specialists. It also has secondary animation experts for creating foliage , fur, hair, dust, fire, hay, particles and simulation for water, waves, wind and air. ...

Doing it overseas. A relatively new phenomenon in live action. But an old story in animation.

I'm amused a studio could call itself "Technicolor" at all.

I'm all for other studios around the world making animated films. But when Jeff Katzenberg is doing it SOLELY to save a buck, it pisses me off.

Not at the expense of my wallet. Besides, what's wrong with my dislike of outsourcing? Do I need your permission for my likes and dislikes?

if outsource going to save money, of course that's what he will do, that's what all SANE people/business owner will do.

And at this point, the subject of the discussion turns to ethics and patriotism.

Either you think making money is more important than patriotism, or you dont.

Katzenberg is the former, as are most modern businessmen.

Apparently long gone are the days of the leaders who would value the working lives of their fellow Americans over making a cheap buck by outsourcing labor. I recognize the simplistic nature of that sentiment, but I think it might just be that simple.

Dreamworks could be profitable without India, and the US would be better off for it.

Well put, but it would be important to point out that people out of work will not be able to afford the products and services offered by the very same companies that outsource the work. Not only that, but if you have family members out of work, and friends out of work, you start imagining you're next, and therefore you are less likely to spend money away. This economy relies heavily on the consumer, so his confidence in job security should not be overlooked.
Personally patriotism is not something I put a lot of value on, I simply find CEOs greed and the lack of compassion towards their neighbors rather disgusting.

well i agree with Diablo.....that this could cause Empoyment problems in the USA but what about a country like India which totally depends on Outsourcing Bussiness...because there are rarely any sponsors to fund a Feature level Animated movie....if outsourcing stops then people here would get Unemployed!! and by the way this cant be regarded totally as "Outsourcing" Dreamworks has its Dedicated branch in Bangalore, India Supervisors and Lead Artists from Dreamworks (H.O) are working there!!!

Not entirely clear what your point is. But India's problem needs to be addressed by, yes you guessed it, Indians, not by my wallet. I'd rather see my neighbor happily employed. I'm sorry to say I have less empathy with the Indians, perhaps is the distance. But they have an industry to work with. Germany did what it could to KEEP their middle class employed by not letting too many jobs be outsourced. It seems this policy worked very well for them.

The jobs in US are getting killed due to the huge Labour Laws of the US government and the Animation and Visual effects Industry cant actually afford to deal with it (for low budget projects) Almost all the 2d to 3-d conversion work(rotoscopy) in hollywood is being done at India at cheap rates (dat sucks).... actually honestly speaking i also dont like the fact that Foreigners are investing here because they want Cheap work not Good quality work!!

I'm not sure you can prove your first premise. And I'm not sure I accept it as true.
