At the Diz

In between talking on the phone, plowing through e-mails (these days 1/3 of them are Spam) and all the other business reppy things that I do, I found my way to the Hat Building in Burbank ...

I spent most of my time in the story department. Presently, King of the Elves is in script development and board artists are waiting to see pages.

"The new take on Elves is solid, and the story is shaping up. ..."

The next installment of Prep and Landing (the half-hour version) is in work, and Reboot Ralph is bopping along.

Morale is better in and around the Hat. Having a high-grossing film can do that.

Er...I'm pretty sure they haven't publicly announced that second project.

If Jim Hill is talking about it, it's public. Regardless of studio press releases.

I mention nothing that isn't already out there.

Good to hear. Any info on what medium each film will be using?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, every fanboy out there already knows about Mort.

Is the revived version of King of the Elves going to be in CGI?

Is Chris Williams the new director of the King of the Elves as rumoured?

Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

Floyd what do you know about the projects listed above?

The difference Steve, (and I really shouldn't have to point this out to you), is that Jim Hill doesn't have the ability to walk into nearly every office of the Hat building whenever he wants.

So you just confirmed his rumor.

Hey, tell us Steve... what's the next bunch of films out of Dreamworks? I'm sure you've seen a sketch or two. Which of all the following rumored films are actually real?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DreamWorks_Animation#Upcoming_films

I guess since they're "out there" you won't have any trouble confirming them?

To the anon above:

"So you just confirmed his rumor."

No, he didn't. This has been first reported by Michael over at Progress City, USA as a rumour and then it was *confirmed* by Honor of Blue Sky Disney who said that he had actually visited the Hat Building and assured us the rumour was true.

Then Jim Hill and the rest of the blogs/sites got a hold of the news.

Steve Hulett did nothing wrong and he has never leaked info about an upcoming animated film *first*. He only comments about them only *after* info has been leaked.

Get your facts straight.

Except that Steve is the only one, out of all of those "bloggers", who visits the building in an OFFICIAL capacity. So his confirmation is the only one that is valid... and true. Thus he is FIRST, and subversive.

Two questions Steve:

1) Is the retooled King of the Elves still a CGI animated film?

2) Is Chris Williams the new director of King of the Elves?

Even if you can't answer the second one for being *confidential*, I am sure you can answer the first one.

Sorry, but I'm not talking. I got in enough trouble when I accidentally let word about Pixar's "Newt" slip out.

For now, I know nothing.

The story broke in late October here and here.

It was confirmed Oct. 30.

And elaborated upon Nov. 1.

Now, two and a half months later, Steve mentions it. BFD. At a time when a lot of people are despairing that Disney might not do another hand-drawn feature unless Pooh is a big hit, this is good news, for the industry, and for Disney.

I hope Disney folks travel to Mississippi Delta to research and explore plant life and the people for The Elves. They certain missed the boat when researching the New Orleans history with Princess and The Frog. Just get it right THIS TIME!!

Just out of curiosity, what did they say to you? Did they threaten to sue you or something like that?

Because from that day onwards, you seem too scared to even give the slightest hint about any of Disney's or Pixar's upcoming productions.

I totally missed out on hearing KOTE was back in production, I thought it had been canned around the same time as Snow Queen and that was responsible for there being a year without a Dinsey movie coming up. I'm personally interested in seeing if they're going to use the same animation and painting tactics as they did for Tangled, considering how much money they spent developing it.

Oh, blah blah blah and the sky is falling. WHO CARES? Don't get your wig in a bunch. Leave that to the executives.

Michael said...

Thanks to the Anonymouses for the shout-out to my original story. This is a really intriguing project and I'm glad to see it's still steaming along. KOTE, too.

Floyd Norman said...

No, it's not a matter of being scared. It's out of respect for my colleagues. I was never called on the carpet or anything like that.

Sue me? That sounds like fun. I'd love to be involved in a Disney law suit. I generated several law suits when I was writing the Mickey Mouse comic strip.

Anonymous said...

Come on. They would never dare to sue Floyd. Just think of all the bad publicity.

I can see the headlines now: "Disney Legend, African-American, Animation Veteran Sued by the Evil Empire".

Bite me.

Steve please don't use such inflammatory rhetoric.

It only provokes violence among these knuckle dragging trolls.

We don't want you to be held responsible for anything you might unintentionally would have caused.

Let me be the first to say that I will no longer call Trolls trolls, but instead, people that need to get a life and move out of their mom's basement.

Of course, if someone gets bit, then Steve is in for a really nasty lawsuit.

Steve, I do believe it's a back-handed compliment. He's saying you're the only that matters - maybe just to him, but ya' know, it's something...

You go, Steve!

Don't let the trolls and hacks get under your skin.

That's what your mom said.

Go Disney!

"Thats what your mom said"

Oh snap!

"You get to visit the Mouse House and then leak news?"

You can't leak what's already out there. If he popped off something new that's one thing, but most in the know have heard about this and sites have confirmed this months ago. Why don't you get mad at him when he leaks something no one knows about yet. Of course, maybe you're just upset because you are the last to know.

I don't know who wronged somebody else first here, but you're all behaving like big babies.

Stop your name-calling and let's get back to discussing animation.

Greetings from Malta (the country).
