The Madness Continues

Hard to believe, innit? Yet another animated feature gets the live-action treatment?

... Disney is conjuring up a live-action movie based on the "Night on Bald Mountain" sequence from the studio's animated classic Fantasia.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will write the script for the project — which is in early development at the studio — based on the 1940's animated film. The hot writing duo is also executive producing the film. ...

Disney has been diving head first into its animated classics to remake them as live action versions. Following Maleficent, Cinderella was released earlier in 2015, and has earned a stellar $531.8 million worldwide. A live-action version of Beauty and the Beast will star Emma Watson. ...

No mention of the live-action Sorcerer's Apprentice. But you can't shatter box office records every time you create a remake. Every once in a while, flops happen.

Of course, what's going on here is synergy optimization. Diz Co. has properties it wants to reinvent, even as it reinvigorates the originals. If you've got a library of features people love, rework them so they'll love them even more.

It's a business model that's working like gang busters. Just look at the Walt Disney Company's stock price.

I tingle with anticipation.

Wasn't Aristocats originally planned to be live-action...?

Maybe they'll some day animate The Black Cauldron. Although it wasn't quite live action, it was NEVER "animated."
