New building update

This is my favorite view of our current building. I love the cool, midcentury-modern facade and entryway on Lankershim . . . . . . which is unfortunately the best thing about the place. I thought I'd show the current building, since I don't have any photos of the new building that I haven't already posted. Plus I just love that part of the Lankershim building, even if we've let it get a bit dingy looking. We'll be closing escrow on the 1105 N. Hollywood Way building within the next week or so. What's most exciting is we've engaged in a charette (that's our word-of-the-day) with two excellent architects. After looking around and taking recommendations, we came down to a choice between two experienced, talented architects. Both have done union buildings, both have won architectural awards, both have done a variety of buildings we like and admire, and both gave every indication they'd be great to work with on what we know will be a complicated, tricky process. So we've engaged both to give us some preliminary elevations and floorplans, and based on their presentations we'll make a final decision. We'll be renting the new building back to the current owners for a few months, so we have some time to get the design work right before remodeling begins. I'm looking forward to us having a building we can all be proud of, and to having a place where we can have some fun, useful gatherings on top of the vital uses the building will also provide. I just wish it didn't take so long!

It sort of looks like the old Hanna Barbara building.
I forgot what street the H&B building was on, but, if 839 is the now, I think it is a wonderful homage.

The old H-B building is still there on Cahuenga. Looks like some sort of work is going on there...

Yes, they're very different buildings. The H&B building is considered by some to be a fine midcentury modern design example that deserves to be preserved.

Hey there, thanks for commenting on our blog, I can't find an email for you. We've actually met before, we're
friends with the Baxters. I have some paintings up at their studio.
Thanks again, keep up the good work!

Why can't your photos be bigger? I'm always clicking on them and saddened when they appear the size of my pinky toe.

And I thought you had such big feet . . .

For this photo what you see is the full size (I got it from an article on Tom Sito I found on the internet somewhere). Some of the other photos I've posted will enlarge if clicked. I think Steve is doing things a little differently, so photos in his posts may not enlarge.
