Jim Hillin got into the nuts and bolts of computer animation in 1984, when very few people were doing it ...
He was creating computer animation for Filmation in the last half of the 1980s. Shortly thereafter, he supervised computer imaging work on Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Dinosaur. Today, Jim specializes in live-action visual effects.

Great interview, great to give a different perspective on the industry.
Joe Camel pretty much destroyed the idea of having animated characters promoting adult products in this country. I kinda miss the days when that was still obvious to see (the Hamm's Beer bear brings this to my mind).
Here's that "Flying Logos" short in case anyone might like to check it out. Certainly represents that era of CGI brilliantly IMO...

I golfed with Jim Hillin Monday - and I have to say... He's not only a talented guy, he's also an extremely nice guy with a great sense of humor... And tons of patience.
And has the greatest story about how he met his wife!
I was the guest in the cart who interrupted everyone but completely enjoyed the day with them!
