Andreas Deja became a specialist in animating villains through the first half of the nineties. In addition to the despicable Jafar, the lion who offed Simba's father (Scar) was also in his wheelhouse.

Steve, you talk too much during these interviews. You must leave your interviewee do most of the talking. Also, some times your train of thought is a bit scattered. You need to watch that.

Who cares if it's hand drawn or not? NO ONE. Make a good film, and get some animators who can ACT.

I'll strive to do better, anon. If we were editing these things, we would cut a lot of me out. But we're not editing.
Personally, I don't feel you talk too much at all Steve. I've always enjoyed these podcasts because they feel more like recorded conversations (probably because they are) rather than structured interviews. It's something that separates your work from a lot of the other podcasts out there.
So, just to offer my opinion, I think you should just do what comes naturally. I have found all of your podcasts to be enjoyable because of their down-to-earth atmosphere (which I'm sure is also a result of not editing).
This was a wonderful interview! Steve, I wonder if it's possible for you to pre-announce the artists you'll be interviewing and have your readers post questions (for that artist) on this blog? Just curious.
I could possibly do that (and perhaps will.) The thing of it is, I schedule some interviews quickly and others not. People cancel. People say "no."
I've got the July 4th interview up and ready to go. Beyond that, I'm mulling over who to interview next.
One more thing: We'll be putting up some "re-created" interviews, transcripts of older questions and answers where the tapes are missing and we wanted to put up an audio. I don't think we'll be doing many of these, but there will be a few.
And they'll come in-between the non-recreated stuff.

I was one of the Animators in the Sydney Disney Studio fortunate enough to get to work with Andreas and I would have to say what a career highlight it was. After years of looking up to the work of him and his peers as an Animator in Australia, to get the opportunity to sit alongside him was amazing. He's such a generous and inspiring guy to work with.
