Shadow

One of our fine trade papers reports:

The Book of Mormon star Josh Gad, Saturday Night Live’s Bill Hader and Kate Hudson have signed to star as the voice cast of Me & My Shadow, the animated fantasy from DreamWorks Animation.

Alessandro Carloni, who served as head of story on DWA’s Oscar nominated How to Train Your Dragon, will make his directorial debut on the movie, which is being produced by Melissa Cobb (Kung Fu Panda 2). ...

For those keeping charts at home, Shadow was earlier being developed by Mark Dindal, who (I'm told) ramped it up from a concept by Jeffrey K.

(When I interviewed Mark last June, he was deep into the project. He left it only recently.)

That's too bad. Does anyone know why he left?

Artistic differences.

Everyone cites "creative differences". I'd like to hear the real story for once.

SAD...
Is this a musical now?

Is this a musical now?

No. Only "Monkeys of Mumbai" and "Lidsville" are supposed to be musicals.

Two things ...

1) Very disappointed to see Mr Dindal go. I wanted to see how he would follow-up Chicken Little.

2) I hope the new director will retain the 50% hand-drawn animation aspect of the flm. Hopefully Winnie the Pooh's performance won't scare off Mr Katzenberg from as well.

katzemburg is nothing if not reactionary. The shadow will be all CG.

If ignorance is bliss, you must be one happy mother.

The Good - the story is greatly improved

The Bad - the show is as fun to work on as Bee Movie

Can anyone besides hearsay and trolls give true insight if this is still half CG and half 2d?

From a DreamWorks press release:

"...the studio will pioneer a groundbreaking combination of both CG and traditional animation techniques, which will be used seamlessly to create a never-before-seen movie experience."

Sorry to hear Mark Dindal has departed, I hope it remains funny

"CG and traditional animation techniques, which will be used seamlessly to create a never-before-seen movie experience."

In other words, it's all CG. That's all "tech" talk.

I hope they dust off and bring out the buzzword "Tradigital" I miss that. It never go a fair chance its first time around.

Seriously though... Allesando is *freaking amazing* I hope they give him free reign to craft this film into something amazing.

Too bad they put all their 2D desks out in the rain in a Chatsworth warehouse lot to rot. MDF doesn't weather well outdoors.

Shitcan 'Monkey's of Mumbai' and 'Lidsville'. Save that crap for your outsource studios. Somebody needs to clean house in the DW development department though. "Troll Dolls" "Captain Underpants" ??? for real? Somebody is hitting the pipe over there.

They will. "Monkeys of Mumbai" will be the first DWA flick whose animation will be completely outsourced to India.

Shadow isn't "all CG". The shadows will be animated in 2D.
