Director Dean Deblois and Producer Bonnie Arnold discuss the making of one of the better animated features of this year.
I'm still amazed that entertainment media dubbed HTTYD2 a "disappointment" within weeks of its release. The movie ended up making more money around the world than its predecessor, but less in the U.S. and Canada.
So, disappointment.

Steve.
First off, thanks for speaking my mind. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a fantastic piece of animated filmmaking (in my opinion) and I'm still quite befuddled as to why everyone jumped the gun so early in calling in a disappointment.
Not to mention, it was the primary reason for DWA's strong third quarter earnings. So there's that.
I also wanted to ask about the deal with Hasbro. Let's say that Dreamworks Animation does go through with the merger. What will that mean for their feature film outlet?
Will Dreamworks still continue their distribution deal with Fox, or will they get shifted elsewhere to a new distributor? How would it even effect their ongoing diversification methods?
I'm also very confused about it being called a disappointment. I thought it was a great movie, as was HTTYD1 and RotG. I think Dreamworks has created a few much more interesting films than Disney or Pixar for the past 5 years... both story- and character-wise, and absolutely graphic-wise.
