The 2012 Wage Survey

Today we sent the annual TAG wage survey to the printer. The survey is our annual check of where rates of pay have been and where they're going. In this choppy labor marketplace, the more information we all have on current rates, the more knowledge you'll bring into your own wage negotiations. ...

This year, we're circulating the forms in both digital and paper format. A few highlights from surveys past:

Our goal this year: To get the survey to as many members as possible, and get a return of the forms that is higher. (Although the global returns were somewhat higher in 2011 than 2010, the more surveys we get back, the more useful ... and accurate they will be for all the folks using the data. It's way better to get information from a 40% or 50% return than, say, 12%.)

Would you be interested in the responses of 839 members on honorary withdrawal working outside of 839 shops?

I'm working at a VFX studio right now. I'm happy to fill out the form. I just don't know if my info is of use to the survey or not.

Are you guys able to put the online survey on a secure server? It is currently just http and the information is fairly personal, esp. the SSN digits.

The paper version of the survey will be going out to members in 10-15 days. If individuals have been on withdrawal a year or less, they should get the form. (People should feel free to call the office if they don't get a form.)

Last year's participation rate was slightly higher than the year before, but still lower than we'd like. I know from first-hand knowledge that some highly-comped folks are reluctant to fill the survey forms out. Unfortunate, but you can't force people to participate.

We'll be urging people to send in their data over the next six weeks. The survey will wrap up just before labor day.

Hmmm....With the requirement to provide your ssn in the form, I see why people would be reluctant to participate.

Diablo, you should sign up for the 839 mailing list. The email about the Wage Survey clearly stated that those who respond using the paper form do not have to put down their last four digits of their Social Security #.
